I was fortunate to have been trained and mentored by a few talented, detailed and experienced masons. They were true craftsmen of brick, block and stone. Like many other young pros, I moved material and mixed batches of mortar by hand long before I was allowed “on the wall.”

Building science is what really makes me tick. I love seeing how things fit together, as well as linking technical data to wall performance, and I think it’s important to relay those technical conversations at all levels, from CEOs to contractors and vice versa.

As a craftsman, it is paramount that you care about the work that was done to the wall prior to you getting on the job, not only on account of your professional pride but also because you could be held liable for anything that has been done incorrectly in the past.
